The 02 XDA Exec: a piece of crap
June 16, 2006 – 9:20 amI made the mistake recently of ‘upgrading’ my phone to the O2 XDA exec. It’s an appallingly designed piece of equipment. I have this naive faith that the perfect handheld device: phone, PDA, games platform, music player, hand-warmer is just about to appear on the market. I knew that the XDA was a bit big but I thought that I could live with the disadvantage of its size for the benefit of its other features.
That was before I realised that the thing doesn’t work properly as a phone, suffers from a slow operating system and won’t let me send mail from my IMAP account.
I make a lot of calls and my montlhly bill is pretty high; I had assumed that O2 would let me change the handset. That was my second mistake. My only option is to pay 10 months minimum charge - £300 - to cancel my contract.
So much for customer ’service’.

argh the killer contract…
when you do finally escape their clutches I can recommend the Treo 650 as a PDA that actually seems to work. I have been using it for six months and it does everything I need - phone, email, camera
The main thing for me is mobile email..and it does that faultlessly, whilst keeping my hands toasty. Works well as a torch/flashlight too.

I totally agree that the flashlight functionality is the best feature of this device. Mine needs rebooting daily, the bluetooth stack has never worked and wifi connectivity is patchy. The mobile email integration with MS Exchange is good though with Activesync.

The plan is to wait for the Sony Ericsson P990i and then sell the piece of crap on eBay. I’m making two assumptions: that the SIM card will work in the Sony and that the P990 will have a 3 mpx camera when it is eventually released.

Interesting, I’ve had one a couple of months and get on with it really well.
I’ve flashed the ROM with an independent ROM that is not O2 which has really added functions I like, removed the rubbish ones I don’t and speeded things up.
I probably bought your old one on eBay! :o)

I did get the P990, although it has subsequently been stolen, and I was much happier with it. For one thing, it worked well as a phone: the thing that irritated me most about the XDA was the number of calls I lost because of the poor interface.

I agree the XDA EXEC is UNSUABLE !
About 9 months ago, I was so happy when it fell from my hands and broke, a sigh of relief.
The device is so slow ! It put me off of the xda range, only now am I thinking of gettng the Trion, but after much research, don’t want to make the same mistake as with the worthless exec !

I have an exec that I got bored with so I got over to xda-developers.com and downloaded a WM6 ROM for it. There is a wide selection all with multiple extras. There is even iPhone emulation in the form of Re’s Launcher & unlocker (slide unlock).

its been more than a year my o2 xda exec is perfect in evry sense, size is no issue wen im holding the “man” thing in my hand and playing with its huge screen, specially wen u c me using satellite navigation, checking my emails or checking my website was neva easy for me b4, typing texts isso easy, its mp3 player with those loud speakers hv extrememly clear and original like sound as ur mp3 or ipod plays, it has evrything i need taking notes while talking, accessing pdf, word, excel or powerpoint files, i’ve got 4gb memory card inserted in my device which is excellent way of tranporting big files while i can transfer those files using bluetooth within my device, moreover whereva im i can use internet using its highspeed GPRS and 3G system. I believe to use anything u got to treat it with respect and it gives u its best to u.

Hi all,
I have spent hours looking for WM6 for my XDA Exec, i can read a lot of guys installing the magic portion but can someone help bright ones out there.. I am just looking for WM6 to install on the O2 XDA Exec.
Even the O2 have disowned the xda exec these days.A Pathetic piece of garbage i must admit. It does all the thing but only fails the sole purpose of its existence…ease of making and receiving phone calls.
Help …need to upgrade to WM6 does anyone have it…crack or orig…whatever…help.
