Comedy Lab (after)

July 14, 2006 – 12:07 am

I was really nervous about this one. I’d expected the tv producers from BBC Comedy to be sceptical, cynical and resistant to structured creative exercises. Some of them had had their arms twisted to participate and at least one arrived at the Spread Eagle distinctly unamused at being made to come south of London from Manchester.

But it worked. At the end of three days eight concepts were pitched to a panel of commissioners who responded very positively. I think that at least three of the ideas are likely to go into further development.

And some very nice feedback from the people I’d been worried about:

“It’s by far the most genuinely productive course I’ve been on at the BBC.” (Stephen McCrum, Producer of Two Pints and Grownups)
