Web Lives
June 1, 2007 – 8:08 amWhile much attention on UK broadcasters’ relationship with the internet has recently been focused on the BBC’s continuing to launch the iPlayer, something interesting has been quietly happening down at itv.com.
Films of Record have been producing a series of short documentaries designed for the internet, Web Lives. The series follows five people whose lives are in some significant way shaped by their online activity. A new, three-minute film about each of five subjects is released each week and, as the series progresses, viewers will encouraged to interact with the characters and add their own content.
Films of Record is the production company founded by Roger Graef, one of the UK’s most distinguished documentary producers. He has been a pioneer in exploiting new technologies to tell true stories since introducing ‘fly on the wall’ techniques in the late seventies. He is now fascinated by the challenge of inventing and learning a grammar of storytelling for a new medium.
Roger is also one of the Crossover UK mentors. He’ll be speaking at the launch event at InSync in Soho on June 20th.
